Pollard, Robert 1786 Leonora Stipple Engraving
- Sold
This is a stipple engraving circa 1786 by Robert Pollard, based on the painting Leonora.
Robert Pollard was born in 1755. He became a pupil of Richard Wilson and then practiced as a landscape and marine painter. In 1781, he moved to London, working as an engraver for the printseller John Harris and established himself in a studio in Spa Fields, Islington, London. In 1788, Pollard was elected a fellow, and in the following year a director, of the Incorporated Society of Artists, which closed down in 1791. He was in business for many years in Islington and in 1810 he sold up, but later
ran a printselling business in Holloway Place, for which his son James supplied many designs. Pollard died on 23 May 1838.
